No worries ive used a mk3 Golf/vento rad now its smaller the core size is 525mm long and a bit thinner but both outlets are on the same side and it fits under the slam panel with a bit of trimming.
I just hope it will be ok

i think this will do the joby , another modifyed part lmfao
bit more modifying today , first decided to make the gearbox mount shorter for more road clearnace , seems better , (nearly 2 inch removed)

more choping

then went radiator hunting as that needed modifying too
then started choping that too as i wanted a big core , for decent cooling

then removed the water pipes so they were on the same side of the rad
thought id have a go at radiator repairing lol

also added a bigger fan switch too

rough fit

then added a fan , i may add too depending on how it cools the engine

plenty of clearance now at the front

started with some pipe work seems to fit ok

some quick brackets made and radiator done, i reckon it fills a hole lol

I dont mean to critise as I have been following your build since the beggining and have loved every installment but with the rad as you have modified it what stops the water going from one flange straight to the other? being on opposite sides its forced to go through the core. Only an observation.... keep up the good work!

Water like anything else will take the path of least resistance.

In this case it will flow straight from top to bottom rather than flow through the restricted arteries of the core.

What you could do is take the end tank of and weld a block in the middle so the water is forced along the top and returns along the bottom.

I am amased though that your skill extends to rad modding!

Amit

i have to stand corrected here regards the radiator , did a couple of quicks test first with smoke , and then water , and decided to rip it back off , and fit a plate half way between the top and bottom hose , and now works a treat ,,, pics to follow in a bit

Do you no if the soldering will be strong enougth to withstain the pressure there is going to be? Would it be any stronger if you brased it?

I expect that when the water is at 100 C or more (under pressure) and the engine is moving around then a solder joint will break. I agree that braising would be better.

My pool boiler sprang a leak which is pretty much a rad in reverse and I soldered it but with the boiler at full chat it soon leaked and that joint doesnt have any stress and is cooled by pool water.

i know the joint which i removed were also solderd , ie inlet/outlet/drain plugs as well the main core and end caps are solderd on so i reckon it will be fine
flows thew the cores now ,,,

all bolted back and wired fan up works a treat , also fitted a 75deg themostatat and fan sensor

next a start on the boost pipes ,looking a bit more like a engine

may get a bit more time 2moz to do a bit more
