I was catching up on the pics of this on the golf forum. Looking sweet dude.
...But can I ask a dumb ass relative newbie question? I've had 4x4's and pick-ups for years and aways kept them in RWD mode for the road, actually all the time because I prefer the feel most of the time. I love RWD though and while all my colleagues were complaining about crappy handling, I thought they were awesome because I could handle tail slides properly and hasd enough clutch control in the rough not to need 4WD so far (it's all mud stuff). I have a 4wd "sports coupe" and it's pants because you just point it and shoot and it goes, no effort requored whatsoever. Why did you go 4wd? -was it for "****s and giggles" or did you prefer it over fw/rwd? Fantastic project build, apologies for asking prev. asked questions? |

It's a haldex system which is not the normal 4x4 setup.
In the golf 4Mo, audi TT, S3 etc think of it as FWD with rear wheel assist when required. There's a computer controlled clutch on the rear diff to engage the rear wheels as required when a wheel begins to slip. You couldn't drive it as you've descried above as the front wheels can never be disconnected from the drive. Powernut has ditched the factory controller in favour of one he made himself to control the clutch at the rear. As to why he went 4x4, i dunno, makes a cool project though Monkey
